Stillness - Wina Obake
Previous exhibition
From April 19 to June 10, 2023
In stillness, we can pay attention to the details of everyday objects, the colors of food, the transparency of glasses, the brightness of plants and the little eyes of insects… We can find the beauty and composition of a moment that, without stillness, would go unnoticed.
This ability to observe carefully becomes essential when we want to abstract what we perceive and put it into a two-dimensional format, recalling the gaze of childhood, where curiosity and the desire to explore and learn about what surrounds us makes us pay attention to the small details. In this way, the aesthetic relationship between human-made and organic objects makes sense when they become points, lines, shapes and light; even without the intention of achieving a photographic realism image, the intention is achieved through a still, static language, in which harmony is paramount.
Through this exhibition, Wina Obake explores stillness with still lifes that seek to transport the viewer to another universe, one where time passes more slowly, worries can wait and curiosity will invite us to pay attention to the small details that make up everything around us: Plants, objects, food, insects and sometimes, an alien.
