Friends of Madness

The world is literally divided into two types of people: there are those who as children were friends with children with superpowers, good-natured monsters or animals mixed with other animals and those who do not know what we are referring to because they surely had older siblings. However, imaginary friends are more common than we think, since according to various sources, approximately 50% of people remember having had a friendship with something or someone that only existed in their head. :O

Continuing with our exhaustive research, we learned that these imaginary entities fulfilled the function of training our social skills to go out into the terrifying world of extroverted people, as well as to communicate fears, discomforts and insecurities and also, through them we were able to experience empathy because we were able to see the world through their five eyes and ask for things for them, such as being served food or having chairs put out for them because they were tired.

Even though it is more or less a consensus that imaginary friends disappear around the age of 8 in neurotypical people, the truth is that everyone keeps some imaginary friendships in their own way, like those who have one-sided conversations with podcasts or with the universe, those who know the entire life of their favorite artists and consider themselves close, and those who name their bike, their plants, or even their fridge. So, through this exhibition, the invited artists will bring back their imaginary friends from childhood, placing them in their daily lives and introducing them to their contemporary imaginary friends. And for those who belonged to that other 50% of the population who never had one, this will be the opportunity they were looking for to imagine that creature that will accompany them from now on in their adventures.

This exhibition will take place during the month of June in three different cities, so if you are from Mexico City, Bogotá or Quito, save the date to visit us!
